KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Voters in Portage Public Schools have given the district the green light for a $132.4-mmillion bond.
It passed yesterday with nearly 63% support compared to 37% voting no.
The bond will be used to build new school buildings to replace current elementaries and remodel and re-equip some existing buildings.
However, voters in the Comstock Public Schools, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools, and Parchment School District were not feeling generous as bond proposals went down in all three.
Comstock was seeking approval of a $31.8-million bond for remodeling schools and improving athletic sites. Galesburg-Augusta wanted voters to allow them to borrow up to $11.2-million for remodeling buildings and building a new transportation facility. In Parchment, the school district wanted approval of a $32.35-million bond to add secure elementary school entrances and remodel buildings.
Voters in all of Kalamazoo County approved a Central County Transportation Authority millage renewal with 67% support. The millage will be for five years and raise $7.8-million in the first year. The money will support the county’s fixed-route bus system and the Metro Link program.
