GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two Kalamazoo men will serve probation for the next three years after they were initially charged with human trafficking and unlawful imprisonment in Grand Rapids.
Devaughntre Bates and Darvionce Smith pled guilty to illegal possession of a financial transaction device and had the other charges dropped.
They were arrested after Kent County Sheriff’s deputies say they forced a woman to go into a bank in Byron Township and open an account.
She told employees she was being forced to open the account, and they were found outside in a car along with another woman who told police she was also forced to be with Bates and Smith.
The women were not charged.
