SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The South Haven city council will review a 93-page report from consultants on re-launching a lifeguard program on the Lake Michigan beaches next Monday.
If the council approves the framework, lifeguards will be on South Beach seven days a week in 2026 and 2027 and expand to North Beach in 2028 and 2029.
The city has been reluctant to put lifeguards on the beaches due to the risk of lawsuits.
Phase 1 of the project would cost nearly $482,000 including lifeguard towers, a Jet Ski with a rescue sled, all-terrain vehicle, uniforms with a mask, snorkel, and fins and more.
