KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Transportation crews in west Michigan are gearing up for the season’s first winter storm as more than two-million drivers hit the road for Thanksgiving.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Kalamazoo County and areas along I-94 and the Lake Michigan shoreline, with strong winds and several inches of snow expected.
MDOT officials say rain ahead of the snowfall will prevent them from pre-treating roads, so crews will work around the clock to react as conditions change.
The agency has 89 trucks and more than 140 operators on call across seven counties.
Drivers are being urged to leave early, carry emergency supplies, and give snowplows plenty of room.
