KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A driver reportedly experienced a medical emergency and slammed her vehicle into a light pole and a cement barrier before coming to a stop in Kalamazoo Wednesday afternoon.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers and fire/rescue personnel responded around 1:30 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Rose Street and Lovell Street. They say the SUV traveling southbound on South Rose Street left the roadway and struck the light pole and barrier. The light pole came to rest on top of the vehicle.

Fire/Rescue Personnel from KDPS station 4/5, already in the area on another call, arrived first and found the 57-year-old female driver unresponsive. They removed the driver from the vehicle and began life-saving efforts. Responders were able to regain stable vital signs before the driver was transported to a local area hospital, where she was last listed in critical but stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
