Dec 17 (Reuters) – Online education platform Coursera will buy peer Udemy for about $930 million in an all-stock deal, the companies said on Wednesday.
The deal brings together two of the largest U.S.-based online learning platforms as the sector consolidates following a post-pandemic slowdown in consumer demand, with companies seeking scale, enterprise customers and more predictable subscription revenue.
The offer price of $6.35 per share represents a premium of 18.3% to Udemy’s last close.
While companies have pitched AI upskilling as a growth opportunity, investor skepticism remains evident in the sector’s muted share price performance.
Shares of Udemy have fallen about 35% this year, while Coursera has lost about 7% of its value during the period.
