BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The CEO of Battle Creek nonprofit Reintegration to Support and Empower, also known as R.I.S.E. Corp., is facing charges of welfare fraud over $500.
Forty-seven-year-old Damon Brown allegedly applied for Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ food assistance program from 2020 to 2024 and said he earned less than $2,000 a month.
Brown earned over $77,000 in 2021, nearly $118,000 in 2022 and over $126,000 in 2023.
He is accused of defrauding the state of $20,549 in food aid by lying about his income.
