KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo city commission this week approved a new traffic safety plan during a five-hour meeting Monday night.
The plan is nearly 140 pages long.
It includes intersection improvements, lighting and pedestrian safety, and bus stops and needs to be submitted to the federal government by the end of the month.
Kalamazoo Public Works manager Dennis Randolph says “some intersections are inherently poorly designed,” including West Main and North Sage streets, where the plan calls for removing the turning lane and replacing it with a median along with closing off some access points at parking lots.
The debate by commissioners over bus stop locations lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours.
