WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM)- Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin has disclosed , that she is the subject of a federal investigation related to a viral video she organized and appeared in last November.
The 90-second video, featuring Slotkin and five other Democratic lawmakers with military or intelligence backgrounds—including Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and several House members, urged members of the armed forces and intelligence community to refuse to follow illegal orders and to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law.
Slotkin, a former CIA officer who served three tours in Iraq, learned of the probe from the office of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, which requested an interview with her or her counsel via the Senate sergeant-at-arms.
The investigation follows sharp criticism from Trump and administration officials, who labeled the video “seditious” and suggested it could warrant severe penalties.
Slotkin described the inquiry to The New York Times as an effort to intimidate and silence critics, stating that “facts matter little, but the threat matters quite a bit,” including risks to herself, her family, and staff.
The Justice Department has not confirmed details of the probe or any specific potential charges, and it remains unclear what crime, if any, officials are examining. Slotkin is at least the second participant in the video to face federal scrutiny, amid heightened political tensions in Washington. The matter has also reportedly led to increased security threats against her, including a bomb threat at her Michigan property.
