COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Comstock Township man faces charges related to a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian last month.
23-year-old Aaron David Alvarado was arraigned in Kalamazoo County District Court Wednesday on charges of Leaving the Scene of a Serious Injury Accident. He was granted a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and is due back in court later this month.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says at around 6:30 p.m. January 17, 2026 deputies were dispatched to the area of River Street near Abbey Street in Comstock Township, where a juvenile male was struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Deputies say they collected physical evidence and obtained witness statements at the scene. Area residences and businesses were canvassed for video surveillance, and investigators followed up on multiple leads and tips.
January 24 investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Comstock Township, where the suspect vehicle was located parked on the property. The Sheriff’s Office says an interview with Alvarado resulted in a full confession regarding his involvement in the crash.
Monday the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney authorized criminal charges in this case, with Alvarado being arraigned Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office says the victim has since been released from the hospital and continues his recovery at home.
