PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two new businesses open in Portage this week and it could impact your plans.
As we told you last week, Raising Cane’s, a new fast food chicken restaurant, is expected to open tomorrow, and it may cause traffic issues along Westnedge Avenue near Milham.
Mayor Patricia Randall says you may want to seek alternative routes.
The other big opening comes this morning, when they snip the ribbon on a new indoor recreation center at the Crossroads Mall.
Doris Antonetti one of the managers at the Zap Zone XL says they have taken over the space formerly occupied by Sears.
She says they feature 15 attractions, everything from go-carts to laser tag to axe throwing, skating, bowling and an adventure park. It’s a multimillion dollar operation covering 150,000 square feet on two floors.
Mayor Randall says they will hold the ribbon cutting at the new facility at 11:30 this morning.
It’s the latest effort to try and pump some new life into what used to be the biggest shopping experience in southwest Michigan.
At the peak, the U.S. had 3000 indoor malls but since then about two-thirds of them have closed and replaced by strip malls.
