WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A vehicle that reportedly was trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had crossed the centerline swerved and struck and killed two pedestrians in St. Joseph County’s White Pigeon Township Thursday morning.
Around 5:15 a.m., deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Eagley Road and Lake Road in White Pigeon Township for a reported personal injury traffic crash. Their preliminary investigation indicates that a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by a 57-year-old male, was traveling southbound on Eagley Road when an unknown vehicle traveling northbound crossed the centerline.
The northbound vehicle reportedly crossed the centerline to avoid two parked pickup trucks located on the east side of Eagley Road.
Investigators believe the driver of the Trailblazer maneuvered his vehicle toward the west side of the roadway in an attempt to avoid the northbound vehicle. During that maneuver, two male pedestrians were struck on Eagley Road.
The Sheriff’s Office says life-saving measures were initiated at the scene, but both pedestrians died at the scene. The deceased have been identified as a 36-year-old male and a 30-year-old male.
Their names are being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
