KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo is known for its philanthropic organizations and individuals. Here is a local fundraising group you may not know about.
They call themselves simply “Guys who Give.”
It’s just a bunch of regular dudes who get together once every three months, pick a local non-profit, and each member donates $100.
“On behalf of our members, I wanna say how grateful we are to be a part of the community where generosity is a part of the culture and where neighbors are willing to step up for one another,” founder Cody Livingston told the Kalamazoo city commission on Monday.
He says the total amount they collect results in a substantial financial boost to whatever group they pick.
“No fancy overhead, no complicated structure, just guys showing up learning about local organizations and putting their resources to work right here at home.”
Since they first got together in 2017, they have raised over half a million dollars for good causes.
“Supporting 35 organizations working in areas such as youth development, basic needs, education, housing and much more,” says Livingston.
There is strength in numbers and Livingston says they are always looking for new members. Right now they have about 180 to 190 signed up.
Their next meeting is May 13th at the Revel and Roll on Stadium Drive at 6 p.m. They also have a website if you need more details.
Last night, the Kalamazoo City Commission approved a resolution recognizing the group for their efforts in the community.
