KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 20-year-old man is being charged with second degree murder after an accident last Christmas Eve that claimed the life of a Kalamazoo woman.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the charge against Elham Muzamel Hamid last Thursday and he was taken into custody Friday. After his arraignment Monday, he was issued a $5,000 personal recognizance bond
68-year-old Marcie Nance was killed in the crash that occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. December 24, 2025 at the intersection of South Burdick Street and Hutchinson Street. When Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers arrived, they found two heavily damaged vehicles. Nance was unresponsive and had to be extricated from her vehicle. Despite officers immediately rendering life-saving aid, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Their investigation determined that Nance had stopped at the intersection of Hutchinson Street and South Burdick Street and was attempting to turn northbound onto South Burdick Street. Before completing the turn, her vehicle was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by Hamid, which was traveling at a high rate of speed.
