The Milwaukee Brewers placed Jackson Chourio on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hand Thursday and recalled fellow outfielder Blake Perkins from Triple-A Nashville.
Chourio suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch in an exhibition game while playing for Venezuela against the Washington Nationals on March 4.
He had been competing in exhibition games with the Brewers this week before feeling more discomfort following a check-swing, prompting an MRI that revealed a small hairline fracture at the base of the third metacarpal. He is expected to miss between two and four weeks.
“It’s rough, for sure. You want to be out there with them,” Chourio said through a translator. “But equally, I’ll be in here, supporting them as I always am. It’s a long season.”
Brewers manager Pat Murphy also noted the length of the season and Chourio’s importance to the club as the reason to put him on the injured list.
“We looked a little deeper because he still had the soreness, and looking deeper, got an MRI, and he’s got a slight fracture in there, a hairline fracture that, if you don’t address it, it could lead to something really serious,” Murphy said. “So, we made a decision to let it calm down and heal even more.”
Chourio, 22, finished third in the National Rookie of the Year voting in 2024 before batting .270 with 21 homers, 78 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 131 games last season.
Perkins, 29, batted .226 with three homers and 19 RBIs in 54 games last season with the Brewers.
