KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Court documents in the case against Jaylen Lipsey in Kalamazoo say he tried to shoot Kalamazoo County Deputy Kaleb Mortimer in the head during a scuffle Friday morning.
Lipsey shot Mortimer once in a thigh and tried to shoot him in the head but the gun malfunctioned, prompting him to throw it down and steal the deputy’s cruiser.
He then led police on a chase throughout the county at speeds up to 125-miles-an-hour before he intentionally crashed into another deputy’s cruiser near the sheriff’s office and was arrested.
Lipsey was arraigned Monday on charges of assault with intent to murder a police officer, disarming a police officer, unlawful driving away of an automobile, and resisting and obstructing law enforcement.
Bond was set at one-million-dollars and he is due in court next Tuesday.
