Outgoing U of M athletic director to receive buyout worth more than $7 million

ANN ARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Outgoing University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel is set to receive a buyout worth more than $7 million when he leaves the university at the end of the year.

The agreement also includes a $108,000 retirement contribution, retiree health benefits and payment of $82,000 in attorney fees.

Manuel is stepping down after a university-commissioned investigation found problems with accountability and oversight in the athletic department. He will remain at Michigan as a special adviser to the university president.
