BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Three women were arrested early Sunday in Battle Creek after reportedly bragging on a Facebook livestream about breaking into a home and assaulting another women.
Battle Creek Police responded shortly after 3:15 a.m. Sunday to a report of the home invasion and assault in the 200 block of Freedom Lane.
Once on scene, officers made contact with the victim, an 18-year-old Battle Creek resident, who shared that three female suspects had forced entry into the residence through a window, assaulted the victim, and discharged pepper spray. The victim also shared that the home invasion and assault stemmed from a previous dating relationship. LifeCare Ambulance treated the victim on scene.
According to police, officers were able to obtain a limited physical description of the three suspects, a nickname for one of the suspects, and a photograph of another suspect. Based on the photograph, police were able to identify one suspect. A description of the vehicle used by the three suspects to flee the scene was also provided to officers.
About an hour after the initial home invasion and assault, the victim reached back out to police to report that the suspects were currently livestreaming on Facebook and discussing the incident at a local gas station. Officers responded to the gas station and successfully made contact with several individuals; however, they didn’t have sufficient information at the time to confirm their involvement in the original incident.
Shortly after making contact at the gas station, police observed an unoccupied vehicle, with its hazard lights on, near Riverside Drive and Dickman Road. Officers remained on scene until four women returned to the unoccupied vehicle.
Officers then made contact with the group of women, recognizing one woman as a suspect believed to be involved in the home invasion and assault. Another woman also referred to one of the women by the nickname that had been provided by the victim.
Police were able to detain both women, after the victim positively identified both suspects after arriving on scene. A third woman on the scene was also positively identified by the victim as the remaining suspect in the original incident.
As a result of officers’ investigation and cooperation from the victim, two 19-year-old women and one 21-year-old woman were taken into custody and charged with home invasion.
