KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency’s special education millage renewal and restoration proposal has been approved by voters.
In Kalamazoo County, 24,972 voted for the renewal and 12,857 voted no, while in St. Joseph County, 87 voted in favor and 28 voted against it and in Calhoun County, 224 voted no and 132 voted yes.
The millage will be in effect for six years and will rise by .0138 mill from 2027 to 2032.
The current millage rate for the tax is 1.4862 mills, which is $1.4862 on every $1,000 of taxable valuation of a property.
It provides funds for educating students with disabilities. The millage will raise just over $16.8 million in 2027.
