ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jul. 7, 2026) – Even though it does not have a medical center with a birthing unit, it doesn’t mean that there weren’t any babies born in Allegan County during 2025.
In his Annual Report to Allegan County Taxpayers, which was unveiled for the first time on Monday night during the Fennville City Commission meeting, County Clerk/Register of Deeds Bob Genetski cataloged 51 births last year, all of which were considered “home births,” except in emergency situations. It’s the most in any calendar year since 2008, when what is now Beacon Allegan closed its birthing unit.
Among other items of note in the report: Genetski’s offices recorded 5,539 total “original records” such as births and deaths, papers of honorable discharge, and licenses for marriages, concealed pistols, and small businesses. More than half of those records – 2,945 – were for CPL, and both of those figures are new highs for the county.
Real estate transactions fell by 34 top 5,806, although revenue through the state’s transfer tax grew from $6.6 million to over $7.5 million. Mortgages also rose by 516 to 4,335, the third straight year for such growth.
