KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While Consumers Energy were busy restoring power knocked out in the Kalamazoo area by weekend storms, they faced another outage, this time caused by a car-pole crash on Oakland Avenue in Kalamazoo.
The crash interrupted power to 3,500 homes and businesses, plus caused damage at Consumers Energy’s nearby Oakwood substation. Crews worked throuhg the night to restore power. Consumers says work continues this morning there and at nearby Woods Lake Elementary School.
Crews are installing a temporary mobile substation so that customers will continue to be reliably served while permanent repairs are made to the Oakwood substation.
The utility says nearby customers may experience brief, intermittent outages in the area today as repairs continue, but they will be planned and ensure reliable service while repairs are completed.
The temporary mobile substation will be removed before school starts later this summer after permanent repairs are made inside the substation.
