KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, and City of Kalamazoo Emergency Management crews are being bolstered by private contractors who have been brought in to respond to the widespread street and residential damage caused by Monday evening’s high winds.
City officials say their Emergency Management department is also coordinating closely with the American Red Cross, which is actively assisting residents whose homes were directly impacted. Red Cross personnel have been provided with information on affected residents identified by city departments and began outreach today.
Residents with severe damage that has made their home uninhabitable should call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for immediate assistance with shelter and essential resources.
Residents with less severe damage may call the same number for referrals to available volunteer assistance.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, the city has received reports of at least 60 impacted locations involving downed trees and power lines. Properties with trees or lines on structures were prioritized, and approximately one-third of those locations have now been cleared. All major streets and intersections are currently open.
