WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM) – Federal funding will be heading to several southwest Michigan communities to build affordable housing.
Congressman Bill Huizenga says Battle Creek, Benton Harbor, Georgetown Township, Holland, Kalamazoo, and Portage will split nearly $4-million in Community Development Block Grants. Kalamazoo is getting the most at just over $1.6-million.
Battle Creek and Kalamazoo will also receive federal money through the HOME Investment Partnerships Program.
The HOME Investment Partnerships Program is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households.
The state of Michigan also received a direct allocation totaling nearly $34-million CBDG and over $15-million for HOME. This funding is on top of the funding distributed to municipalities across Michigan.

Holland – $347,365
Kalamazoo – $1,611,363
Portage – $208,331
HOME Funding Recipients:
Battle Creek – $238,167.87
Kalamazoo – $491,270.56
