KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo will be spending more than they planned on downtown road construction to avoid the many headaches caused for local drivers and businesses during the last reconstruction of Westnedge Avenue.
Today, Kalamazoo city commissioners will get a full briefing on what those strategies will entail.
Utilities Director James Baker says they plan to phase in the improvements to reduce the disruption, and do a better job of designing detours.
Another strategy will be better communications with impacted drivers and businesses.
He plans a more detailed presentation to commissioners at their committee of the whole meeting today at 5 p.m.
Reconstruction is set to begin on Kalamazoo Avenue between Westnedge and Pitcher next month.
