KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Backers of a childcare millage in Kalamazoo County have launched their campaign.
The group is called Yes for Families and call Kalamazoo County a childcare desert that’s been caused by funding shortages.
They say there are not enough licensed childcare spots that are affordable for families despite over 70% of childcare workers earning under $15 an hour.
The proposed millage will be on the ballot in August and would not exceed half a mill, would run from 2027 until 2034, and would raise over six-million-dollars in its first year.
